Joshua's Baby Dedication Pics

We dedicated Joshua to God on Mother's Day--May 11th, 2008. Thank you all for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers on that very special day! My Mom, Paul, and I took Joshua to Lilac Park and were overwhelmed by the sweet-smelling lilacs. The last pic is one of Joshua amongst the flowers. Enjoy!

Memorial Day Weekend

Matt, Joshua, and I spent Saturday afternoon weeding, buying perennials, planting, and mulching. . . .we feel like official homeowners! Joshua enjoyed being our "project manager", watching our every move. . . .he even had time to taste some yummy grass! I noticed that he was chewing something and went "fishing" in his mouth to retrieve a chunk of grass. . . .needless to say, we got him some cheerios to munch on. You can see the "before" and "after" pictures of our little backyard flower garden! I'm excited to enjoy it this summer with Joshua as he spends time in his new little inflatable pool.

I'm learning how to sign!

After four months of doing hand signals for "all done" and "more", Joshua is excited to show off his understanding of these two signs! This morning during breakfast, every time that Matt said the word "more", Joshua began signing "more". And when Matt was eating oatmeal squares for breakfast, and Joshua showed him the sign for "more", we began giving him little pieces of his cereal to encourage him to continue this new communication with us. Joshua has just learned how to clap, and so the cute thing is that his "more" sign looks a lot like clapping and his "all done" sign looks like he's celebrating a "touchdown!"

The Henry Ford Museum...

This weekend we traveled to Detroit to go to a conference for Kristin's work.
While there Joshua and I slipped out to visit the Henry Ford Museum.

At the museum we saw:
  • the car JFK was shot in
  • the chair that Abe Lincoln was shot in
  • the bus that Rosa Parks protested on
  • a cot that George Washington slept on while touring the battle fields
  • Henry Ford's first "car"
  • The Dymaxion house
  • An Allegheny Train (this thing was HUGE!)
If you are ever in Detroit, definitely check out the Henry Ford Museum... it's sweet

Joshua's Version of Crawling

Joshua has decided he'd like to be mobile.
But doesn't think that crawling or walking quite work for him.
This is his version of getting around.
In this case to reach the diaper bag.

Nana and Paul are Coming!

Nana and Uncle Paul are rolling into town on Friday for Joshua's dedication at Wheaton Bible on Sunday.
Grammy and Grandpa Schulte are headed to Dallas for Melanie's graduation so they can't make it.
Bummer.

Tyndale + Casa Viva

We are very excited because Tyndale House Publishers (http://www.tyndale.com) has contacted Casa Viva about being a strategic mission partner with them.
This means that they will provide some services to us, they will send teams down to Costa Rica on a regular basis.
Today I met with Jeff an executive at Tyndale to continue helping the process move forward.

I am excited to be partnering with such a quality company and looking forward to where this partnership leads.
