Advocates // Home Videos

Dear Advocates,

I hope you had a great Christmas holiday.

We traveled home to Nebraska to spend time with my extended family. While there, we found ourselves snowed-in for several days. We passed those days playing games and watching some old home videos.

As we huddled together in the warmth of my parent's family room and relived our childhood, one thing began to stand out to me–family. Watching those quick glimpses of my childhood reminded me of the importance of family–of my family.

I saw time with my cousins at Easter when I was 6, wrestling with my dad at age 3, a visit from my grandparents, and hours of fun with my brothers. As I reflected back on those times, I realized the important role that family played in my development.

But what if…what if I hadn't had that unconditional love and support of my family? What if I was like the millions of children raising themselves on the streets? How would I be different, where would I be? Would I know Jesus Christ as my savior?

It's hard to tell or even conjecture, but as I enjoyed the warmth of our home and looked out into the blizzard that was raging, I couldn't help but think that my life was a little like this warm, solidly built home, and the life of a child without a family would be much more like the cold, raging blizzard outside.

I am glad to be connecting children to families—to Christian families who love and care for them, share Christ with them, want what's best for them, and are making the home videos so that they may some day look back and rejoice at God's faithfulness in their lives.

Thank you for joining me on this journey of connecting children to families.

Is there anyone who comes to mind that you and I should share Casa Viva with?
